Saturday, March 1
FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH--MARY, QUEEN OF APOSTLES
OF THE DAY
Jas 5: 12-20
Ps  141: 1-3, 8
Mk 10: 13-16

The member who begins each day to pass as if it were the last day of his life, can have full confidence of dying well (NOV 7).

From Father Tom: Of course. But is it not difficult to think of even one day as being our last? Indeed, too much concentration on the future can lead to neglect of the present. How about doing our level best in each circumstance and leaving the Master to worry about the rest?

The unity of the faithful and of the pastors with the Vicar of Peter is the characteristic of the true Christian. One who is witht he Pope is with Jesus Christ (All Sorgente p. 55).

From Father Tom: An excellent thought to conclude another month in the Lord's service!

Mk 9: 41-50

The discourses of the Pope are not to be compared to those of lecturers or heads of political parties. The Pope is a mediator between Christ people, taking the truth from Christ and communicating it to all who wish to listen (FSP (55)

From Father Tom: An opinion expressed by the Founder many years ago but as fresh as today's newspaper!

We are founded on the Church and on the Vicar of Peter, and this conviction fills us with certainty, joy and courage (UPS 1, 374)

From Father Tom: This well-know statement goes back to 1960--when the Founder hosted a month of spiritual exercises for the Pauline pioneers who had gone all over the world to found Houses and activities. It was a great moment in Pauline life.

The family is the first place where human beings are made holy. It is the first society instituted by God and sanctified by Jesus Christ. In the family we should look for formation in proper living, good example, constant charity and continuous labor (MB 169/170).

From Father Tom: Confronting this definition with the reality in too many families today, we have to fear for the world of tomorrow--can it become worse or more tormented or attacked?

To read the Scriptures means to educate one-self in the things of God. To bring scriptural truth to the notice of others is a work of mercy. (BM 327).

From Father Tom: We tend to think of "work of mercy" as being something material to support life. But the real life to support is not the one before us, but the invisible life which lasts forever.

The Church works to form the perfect Christian, the citizen of heaven, and this takes place in Jesus Christ, Way, Truth and Life.

From Father Tom: I've suggested already that we make a special devotion more real by addressing Jesus as "JESUS MASTER," (nor necessarily adding the rest--it gives a "Pauline" tone.

Jesus sanctified his life with ineffable virtues. In Him we find especially obedience and loving submission to hi Father (BM 294).

From Father Tom: The first years of consecration are usually not difficult in terms of doing what is suggested. But woe to us if we think we have solved all our problems! Only later on do we realize that we are really capable and those who tell us what to do are nut cases.

This poor humanity is so much in need of Christ and of God. The priest's role is to give God to people and people to God, Jesus Christ, Way, Truth and Life (SP Aug/Sep. 1949)

From Father Tom: This does not mean just sharing religious information with others, but also interceding with God for their welfare. From Father Tom: I think we are all still reeling slightly following the Holy Father's announcement last October that he had decided to hold the annual Vatican Retreat in our Retreat House instead of --as was always the case--in the Vatican itself. The center of Pastoral life is the Eucharist, as sacrifice, sacramental and Real Presence (Alla Sorgente p. 72).

From Father Tom: This thought came as new tome some years ago when I was preparing materials for the Year of the Eucharist. The Eucharist is the center. Surely we should say the Gospel is the source of Church work. No, because the Gospel explains but does not give the energy to put the explanation into practice.

THE PRESENTATION OF THE LORD
FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH--
THE DIVINE MASTER, WAY, TRUTH AND LIFE

>>World Day of Consecrated Life

Mal 3: 1-4
Ps 24: 7-10
Lk 2: 22-40 or 2: 22-32

Jesus Christ redeemed humanity from countless errors and ignorance, the consequences of Original Sin (SP Sept 1954)

From Father Tom: "Original" because it is the cause or "origin" of all others. We were then-we can say-in the grip of Satan, but Jesus "redeemed" us (from Latin "emere"= to buy) when He paid the price of His Passion and Death.
