From Father Tom:  What a joy for our Founder to hear his life-long work approved not just by a Bishop or even the Holy Fahter, but by an ECUMENICAL COUNCIL!!

Acts 13: 13-25
Ps 89: 2-3, 21-27
Jn 13: 16-20

When you are happy, it is easier for you to become a saint. Let not the heart of him who looks for God and loves Him ever be perturbed (ABD 1847, 237).

From Father Tom:  Unfortunately, very few of us are perturbed because we are not saints: our concern is more likely to be bills not paid, house repairs we want done, better relations with neighbors and many other concerns.

EASTER WEEKDAY
Acts 12: 24-13: 5
Ps 67: 2-8
Jn 12: 44-50

Jesus looks at the heart and has compassion for our weaknesses. Generosity is greatly pleasing to Him, our efforts and our daily resolutions give Him comfort (BM p. 34).

From Father Tom:  And doubtless this means that many, if not all, of us are further on in the spiritual life than we take credit for. The Lord hides our major virtues from us as we struggle with some minor fault. May it always be so!

EASTER WEEKDAY
Acts 11: 19-26
Ps 87: 1-7
Jn 10: 22-30

The common life to which we ought to conform ourselves, is first of all piety, whether speaking of the practices of piety or of the manner and the spirit with which to accomplish them (SP Dec 1952).

From Father Tom:  We have, obviously, no "common life," but we have the "practices of piety and "the manner and the spirit with which to accomplish them." In general most of us do very well indeed on this point.

We must note that in our House there is too much colorless devotions. Why is there so much difficulty in welcoming devotion to the Divine Master, to Mary Queen of Apostles, to St. Paul (FSP 54: 115-156)?

From Father Tom:  Today the Founder might well say: why is there so much difficulty in welcoming any devotion to anyone?

1 Jn 3: 1-2
Jn 10: 11-18

If you stir up in others devotion to Jesus, the Good Shepherd, it is easier to have vocations and easier to accomplish your parish apostolate well (Alle Suore di Gesu', Buon Pastore, 1959, 24).

From Father Tom:  Of course. But these days, the majority of people understanding what "Jesus, the Good Shepherd" might mean are well beyond teh likely possibility of a religious vocation--though never beyond the possibility of a call to the Institute.

The
Daughters of St. Paul announce the release of
Media Apostle: The Father James Alberione Story
A film about the priest who loved our media world

BOSTON, April 17, 2015 -- As a young man, James Alberione (1884–1971) was kicked out of the seminary—in part because of his misuse of media—but he turned himself around and went on to found a worldwide Catholic media empire and the Pauline Family: 10 religious congregations and institutes of bishops, priests, brothers, sisters, and laity in over 60 countries. Together these men and women were to be St. Paul living today, doing what St. Paul would do if he were alive:  using, in Fr. Alberione’s words, the "latest, most effective media to reach the greatest number of people with the Gospel." Now this priest’s incredible story is told in the 90-minute documentary Media Apostle: The Father James Alberione Story, available for purchase as a DVD or download/streaming from Pauline Books & Media, the publishing house of the Daughters of St. Paul.
Sr. Helena Burns, a Daughter of St. Paul who was the writer and director for the film, "fell in love" with Fr. Alberione when she was first discerning religious life. "Finally! I thought. A saint who really gets us modern people and isn't afraid of technology or the future! I feel so privileged to be telling his story."
Rob Kaczmark of Spirit Juice Studios, director of photography for the film, was thrilled to discover this media priest well known to Europe but less known to North America: "Alberione is truly a man of our time, and his example serves as a real inspiration for the work we do each and every day as a film studio."
The documentary was shot on location in northern Italy and in Rome, places familiar to Alberione, who began the Pauline Family in 1914. The 90-minute film (which is available also in a 50-minute format on the same DVD) focuses on the life, media work, and media spirituality of the man whom Pope John Paul II called “the first apostle of the New Evangelization.” “Fr. Alberione was a prophet for our times,” said Sr. Burns. “He intuited that the media would be tremendous gifts to use for evangelization. Today we are constantly wired, plugged-in, constantly communicating information, ideas, entertainment, inspiration—constantly socializing through the media. Where is God in all this? Doesn’t a profoundly media-oriented world need a profound media spirituality? Fr. Alberione had an answer, and a vision. That is what the documentary hopes to share.”
Media Apostle: The Father James Alberione Story is now available from Pauline Books and Media: www.pauline.org, 800-876-4463. To watch the trailer and learn more about this very contemporary saint: www.MediaApostle.com (DVD and streaming/download can also be purchased through this website).

Good vocations, sent by the Lord, have been and continue to be, very many. They are the outward proofs that God is pleased (UPS p. 567).

From Father Tom:  In spite of change in Church conditions, this continues to be true. Even in our confused times, the Orders that have retained some form of religious habit and a sacrificial lifestyle attract the young.

It is very helpful to enliven our faith in the Resurrection of Jesus and our resurrection.

From Father Tom:  It is also rather difficult, isn't it? The Resurrection of Jesus, yes, we can visualize this quite well...but our resurrection? Life on earth forever? (There will be "a new heaven" and "a new earth" to accommodate our new bodies).

April 5, 2015 With Blessed Father Alberione and With Father Tom

HAPPY EASTER!!!

Sunday, April 5
THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD
FIRST SUNDAY OF THE MONTH--
THE DIVINE MASTER, WAY, TRUTH AND LIFE
HOLY SATURDAY
Acts 10: 345-43
Ps 118: 1-2, 16-23
Col 3: 1-8
Jn 20: 1-9
Mk 16: 1-7

Three truths capable of leading us to a new life in the Risen will nourish our piety during the Easter season: *Christ rose from the dead. * I believe in the resurrection of the body. *We shall rise in Christ.

From Father Tom:  Indeed. But it is not automatic. That last  sentence must always make us reflect and check our present situation. We shall rise in Christ if we have not only kept the rule but, even more, work to share our gift with others. I have made available a number of aids to finding more vocations...have you got them and used them? Are you in danger of illuding (deluding ?) yourself?

April 4, 2015 With Blessed Father Alberione and With Father Tom

Saturday, April 4
FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH--
MARY QUEEN OF APOSTLES
HOLY SATURDAY

The tomb of Jesus was the place of His victory.

From Father Tom:  And, hopefully, for us also. Every day we will try to prepare for the Final Call which so many of our members have already heard even in relatively young years. Our Divine Master had this experience also and He bore it courageously alone in the Garden and with the unspeakable responsibility leading Him to shake with fear.

April 3, 2015 With Blessed Father Alberione and With Father Tom

Friday, April 3
FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH--
THE SACRED HEART
GOOD FRIDAY
Is 52: 31-53: 12
Ps 31: 2-25
Heb 4: 14-16; 5: 7-9
Jn 18: 1- 19: 42

Jesus Christ sees Mary at the foot of the cross, sharing His sorrows. Women in Christianity have in their makeup an inexhaustible power and can support unheard of things without breaking down.(CISP 1262/1263)

From Father Tom:  We usually attribute this power to the capacity for motherhood which all women have even though they may not exercise it. What did our mothers do for us? In our early stage, everything. And we will always need some sort of "mothering"--especially when the cross presses heavier.

Thursday, April 2
FIRST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH--
THE ANGEL GUARDIANS
HOLY THURSDAY
Ex 12: 1-14
Ps 116: 12-18
1 Cor 11: 23-26
Jn 13: 1-15

The Triduum of the Mass is to pass from a less perfect life to a more perfect one. In the Mass we consume the true Lamb, prefigured by the lamb eaten by the Hebrews (BM 591)

From Father Tom:  The "house liturgy" took place in every home in Palestine and wherever Jews assembled to commemorate their freedom from Egyptian bondage. But now we have something much better: the Body and Blood of Christ...When are we going to show our appreciation?.

Please Pray for Our Deceased:  Sr. Marina Merz FSP (1963)--Fr. Salvatore Sallemi IJP (2006)--Sr. M. Andioleta Manduchi PD (2010)
