SOULS IN PURGATORY
LENTEN WEEKDAY
Dt 3: 25, 34-35
Ps 25: 4-9

Mt 19: 21-35

MONTHLY INTENTIONS:

For the conversion of those who, in the use of the instruments of social communication, refuse to acknowledge the Magisterium of Christ and of the Church, thus deviating the mind, the heart and the activities of men.

FROM FATHER TOM: But first we must convert ourselves. The Founder began with four hours of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament. It would be interesting to check if this member or that passes any hours.

"Faith means continuing to pray in he night because for the one who prays, there is no night that does not finally bring forth its own dawn."
~Concord January 2016

Be Merciful...

God of mercy,
Your love is beyond our comprehension.
Purify our hearts to accept this gift
so we may share it with others.
Help us be faithful to Your ways as
disciples of Jesus.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

True love is that which you show with your hard work in the apostolate: it makes you think, run and organize (FSP 48, p. 580)..

FROM FATHER TOM The comment originally applied to our work in the printing-plant, etc. But, of course, it applies all the more to Institute members and their many challenges.

If envy reigns, the charity of Jesus is not there; if anger reigns, the meekness of Jesus is not there (APD 1956, 276).

FROM FATHER TOM We are generally aware if we are angry or not but envy is something else: a sort of corrosion which wears away the good feelings we should have and makes them seem justified.

Lk 16: 19-31

The poor people, when they stand before the rich with their torn clothes and their beseeching demeanor, they reveal their total need and all their hope (BM p. 635).

FROM FATHER TOM And the real poor?  Have we not all been told who they are? Do we know? Yes, we do, because all too often we ourselves are the real poor--lacking in virtue, in Divine Grace, in holiness.

You do not do works of charity in the hospitals, in works of charity in general, but your charity is more exquisite: you give the truth. This is the greatest charity, because it is charity for the mind, for the soul and for the spirit. (FSP 55, p. 430).

FROM FATHER TOM The Founder does not mention prayer...he takes it for granted if we look at his lifestyle.  But it is not to be taken for granted among ourselves and is this not a basic thought: reaching people, yes, being of benefit to them and to ourselves...?

The Church walks forward and we walk with her; the means to make known Jesus Christ, time will give them to us, as well as human ingenuity and Divine Providence (FSP 48, pp. 524-525).

FROM FATHER TOM A key condition for this is that all of us have an abundant prayer life--not always the case as we trust more in our own skills than in God's.

Sanctity is life of grace. It is merit in the present life; glory in the world to come. To acquire grace by practicing virtue is the work of the Christian and it is the reason for our present life (SM 465).

FROM FATHER TOM Interesting. It is the reason for our present life. Don't we all KNOW this...how come then that we leave sanctity until we retire, or get old, or get sick?  Meanwhile we have all those meetings and phone calls and plane trips and overnights...when will we really put sanctity first?

Just Think...

Just think,
You’re here, not by chance,
But by God’s choosing.
His hand formed you
And made you
The person you are.
He compared you to no one else—
You are one of a kind.
You lack nothing
That His grace can’t give you.
He has allowed you to be here
At this time in history
To fulfill His special purpose
For this generation.

Conversion means to hold an exact position in the journey of virtue, of sanctity, of the apostolate. A right position, to walk on both feet: By myself I can do nothing, with God, I can do everything (FSP 56, p. 375).

There are so many things that we do not understand except before the Tabernacle; if we meditate, if we pray, the light of God shines in our souls (RSP, p. 312).

FROM FATHER TOM Is this easy? For some, perhaps, but for the average Pauline, rushing to get ten things done at once, it is not easy to get these good results.  Lord have mercy on us!

The time of Spiritual Exercises is for recollection: it is the time in which one isolates himself to find himself to find himself alone with God, to talk to Him about one's own life; about the journey one has made and about what is still wanting in one's sanctification (FSP 58, p. 436).

FROM FATHER TOM The Triduum is not exactly Spiritual Exercises--rather a time to meet old friends. But that, too, can be a blessing--the Lord reaches out to us in many different ways.

I am convinced ever more that the most important thing is to love the Lord and do His will; that we must increase our faith an confidence in God because without Him we cannot do anything; that we must often think of Paradise (Ven. Thecla Merlo, Vi porto nel cuore, p. 197)

FROM FATHER TOM And don't we all agree with this? But how, then are we accustomed first to try everything we know at the human level and then...well, let's pray about it?
