It's a horrible thing to be against God, inestimable good to be with Him. God's invitations hardens obstinate hearts but lets good hearts break into tears of sorrow and love (BM p. 582).
From Father Tom: Perhaps ore than obstinate, too many hearts today are simply obtuse. They are concerned with neither good nor evil, but simply with the loss of big incomes and their current financial limitations. Satan never had it so good.
