OF THE DAY
Heb 10: 11-18
Mk 4: 1-20

The Holy Spirit does not dwell in a proud heart, but communicates Himself to the simple (BM 231).

From Father Tom: Perhaps we don't usually credit the Holy Spirit with the good work He does.  Perhaps, but from the '60's onward and still rolling powerfully around the great Charismatic Movement has shared His power with countless numbers--perhaps you were one?

Hopefully, the little booklet of the Stations of the Cross provided last November is still being used and frequently.  It is impossible to do too much for the departed and it is very easy in our overly-optimistic age to do too little.

To the person who prays, nothing is denied.  Even the chain of bad habits can be broken (BM p 578).

From Father Tom: Many of us can agree although often the prayers come from some friend or relation concerned about the way we were going.  But also the great Friend behind the scenes is the One who makes things happen!

Heb 9: 15-28
Mk 3: 22:-30

God is faithful to His promises and gives His peace to whoever has goodwill (FSP p. 749).

From Father Tom: We have always to ask: if I am not at peace, what is the cause?  Myself? Others?  Perhaps my selfishness?  My pride?  One of the other Capital Sins?  If lack of peace is our problem, let's devote some time today to finding the reason.

Our prayer is never just ours, but rather Christ must pray with us and He does it what we ask is for the glory of God and peace to others (BM 495).

From Father Tom: But, in a sense, are not all our prayers the sort Christ can join?  Could we possibly pray for something He would not want?  Possibly, yes, if our prayers are limited largely to ourselves and or interests.

What am I to do , Lord?"  These words point to Saul's complete conversion as well as his absolute readiness to carry out God's wil (SP Jan '63).

From Father Tom: Saul put it into words, but the rule is the same for everyone--including us.  The only difference is that fidelity to our Rule makes the doing of God's will more precise and more valuable.

Vocation is an act of special love of God for us.  "He called to Himself those He wanted." (FSP 44 p. 623).

From Father Tom: How true!  In July of  (my?) 22nd year I was a typical Irish youth. By July of my 23rd year I was (you might say) a religious fanatic!  "Our Lord poured out on me the grace and love which are ours in Christ Jesus" (1 Tim 14).  He did something similar for you--never forget it.

From Father Tom: Which, however, must have first place in our plans.  That is not always evident from the various proposals for the New Evangelization.  With prayer, there are still enormous obstacles.  Without prayer we have already conceded defeat.

Compassion is the first movement of a good heart:  pain touches it and is moved by it and bends to alleviate it (BM p. 99).

From Father Tom:  Compassion is from "cum" and "patire". Cum" is Latin for "with" and "patire" is Latin for "suffer" so a compassion is really more than "feeling" but involves "suffering with" someone.
