FIRST TUESDAY OF THE MONTH--THE
SOULS IN PURGATORY
ALL SAINTS DAY
Rv 7: 2-4, 9-14
Ps 24: 1-6
1 Jn 3: 1-3
Mt 5: 1-12

MONTHLY INTENTION: So that in the church there may be many more priests, religious and laity consecrated to the apostolate of social communications who will make the message of salvation resound throughout the world.

From Father Tom: This is the Founder's constant hope and prayer. It has not happened, and we can become rather cynical as the forces of evil go from strength to strength. But let's look at the cross--typical of disgrace and failure--and recall all that it produced.

National Novena October 30-November 7, 2016

NATIONAL NOVENA: Sunday Oct. 30-Monday Nov. 7

Prayer to Mary, the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the United States

Most Holy Trinity: Our Father in Heaven,
who chose Mary as the fairest of your daughters;
Holy Spirit, who chose Mary as your Spouse;
God the Son, who chose Mary as your Mother,
in union with Mary we adore your majesty
and acknowledge your supreme, eternal dominion
and authority.

Most Holy Trinity,
we put the United States of America
into the hands of Mary Immaculate
in order that she may present the country to you.
Through her we wish to thank you
for the great resources of this land
and for the freedom which has been its heritage.

 Through the intercession of Mary,
have mercy on the Catholic Church in America.
Grant us peace. Have mercy on our president
and on all the officers of our government.
Grant us a fruitful economy,
born of justice and charity.
Have mercy on capital and industry and labor.
Protect the family life of the nation.
Guard the precious gift of many religious vocations.
Through the intercession of our Mother,
have mercy on the sick, the tempted, sinners
– on all who are in need.

Mary, Immaculate Virgin, our Mother,
Patroness of our land, we praise you
and honor you and give ourselves to you.
Protect us from every harm.
Pray for us, that acting always according to your will
and the will of your divine Son,
we may live and die pleasing to God. Amen.

ORDINARY WEEKDAY
Phil 2: 1-4
Ps 131; 1-3
Lk 14: 12-14

We should preferably sing the hymns "I am the Way I am the Truth, I am the Life."  It seems to me that there ought to be more devotion to the Divine Master, Who is the Way, the Truth, and the Life (APD 1966, 39)

From Father Tom: And we do, especially at our Triduum. The words are in our larger Prayer Book. Have you requested one?

This is the route outlined for Paulines: always to be disciples of the Master; always to live in the Master; always to reveal the Master. Through the Master and depending on Him will they be masters of knowledge, perfection and life (Vademecum, 226).

From Father Tom: Institute members should not feel that they are just dear, pious people but of limited affect in the overall work of our Family. Not so. There will be some pleasant surprises on Judgement Day!

BLESSED VIRGIN MARY
ORDINARY WEEKDAY
Phil 1: 18-26
Ps 42: 2-5
Lk 14: 1, 7-11

The members of "Jesus Priest" will consider as their first and principal apostolic duty the one assigned by their Ordinary. If time and energies remain, they can add their own apostolate according to their attitudes, and the local and general needs. Among these works are to be included in the first place the apostolate of press, radio and television (UPS I, 380).

From Father Tom: And of course, Pauline prayer without which we may on occasion do very well technically but not apostolically.

Eph 2: 19-22
Ps 19: 2-5

The first thing to be done is spiritual formation: ours is an apostolate, not a "work". Then, intellectual formation, so that all may become less incapable in the apostolate. It is necessary to make progress; if not, those who spread evil surpass us (RSP p. 30).

From Father Tom: "Surpass us..." And they do. We come up against the two-fold limitation of inferior means and naturally weak human nature. But the Master faced similar conditions and paid the price. We cannot expect to do differently.

Those Who Walk With God...

Brothers and sisters:
I kneel before the Father,
from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named,
that he may grant you in accord with the riches of his glory
to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in the inner self,
and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith;
that you, rooted and grounded in love,
may have strength to comprehend with all the holy ones
what is the breadth and length and height and depth,
and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge,
so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

Now to him who is able to accomplish far more than all we ask or imagine,
by the power at work within us,
to him be glory in the Church and in Christ Jesus
to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

The Source of All Mercy...

Holy God,
You are the source of all mercy.
Help us to believe with St. Teresa  that You
are able to transform all our losses into gain.
Restore to us the gifts we have wasted or failed to use.
Give us the  grace of hearts open to You and to one another.

It is in Christ that our union of spirit, faith, charity thought and activity finds its basis.

From Father Tom: The thought here seems to be that our efforts to practice these recommendations will find their reward and fulfillment in the blessings of the Divine Master.

Let the full recitation of the Rosary be always retained as a great means of progress and a great secret of joy strength and light (SP Aug 1940).

From Father Tom: And here again I confess that my recitation is reasonably frequent, but not of all the Mysteries. I relate much to the Lord's sufferings, less so to His joys and triumphs.

An ideal is a precise and clear point of arrival.  It is an ascent to be made a victory to be attained which absorbs all the intellectual, physical and moral forces of man (CP 1959, 31 Aug)

From Father Tom: And if we are talking sanctity, even all our intellectual, physical and moral forces will not be enough. We need a hand from the Lord.
