A Little Wisdom from St. Francis de Sales

"If you are able to fast, you will do well to observe some abstinence beyond what is enjoined by the Church. For in addition to the ordinary benefits of fasting—namely, lifting up the mind, subduing the flesh, strengthening virtue, and earning an eternal recompense—it is a great matter to be able to command our tastes and inclinations, and to keep the body and its appetites subject to the law of the spirit. And even if we do not fast to any great extent, Satan is the more afraid of those who, he is aware, know how to fast."

The conversion of St. Paul was a true conversion...in the sense that the theology of the Old Testament has passed to the New Testament. Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace. The Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

 A Prayer for One Another

Divine Master, grant that my spouse and I may have a true understanding love for each other. Grant that we may both be filled with faith and trust. Give us the grace to live with each other in peace and harmony.

May we always bear with one another’s weaknesses and grow from each other’s strength. Help us to forgive one another’s failings and grant us patience, kindness, cheerfulness and the spirit of placing the well-being or one another ahead of self.

May the love that brought us together grow and mature with each passing year.

Bring us both every closer to You Through our love for each other. Let our love grow to perfection!

January 14, 2018 Reflection: In God's Service

"God calls us to His service as we are, but helps us along the way to purify ourselves so as to become better instruments. It is up to us to take advantage of God's grace. But the Church is witness to many examples of big sinners who, by God's grace, have become greatest saints.

May we never underestimate the power of God to transform us."

January 8, 2017: Only for Today

A dear friend sent this to me in a Christmas message. I thought it worth sharing.

Only For Today

Only for today, I will seek to live my day positively, without trying to solve the problems of my life all at once.
Only for today, I will be happy in the certainty that I was created to be happy, not only in the net world, but also in this one.
Only for today, I will do one good deed and not tell anyone about it.
Only for today, I will make a plan for myself; I may not follow it to the letter, but I will make it.
And I will guard against haste and indecision.
Only for today, I will firmly believe, despite appearances, that the good Providence of God cares for me as if I were the only person in the world.
Only for today, I will have no fears. In particular, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful and to believe in goodness.

Our Twofold Story

Oh! if only we were to reflect
on our past life and picture
a twofold story:
the story of God's mercy toward us--
in other words,
how "the hand of the Lord"
has guided us--
and the story of our response
to the Lord's countless grace

Miracle Prayer Request for Christina

Repost: This is a MIRACLE PRAYER REQUEST for the complete healing of 11-year-old Christina Dangond. She has battled cancer for five years. As of October 2017 the doctors have said there is nothing more they can do. We are asking HFI families and children to pray and ask Fr. Alberione to intercede for Christina's complete healing. We need a miracle. Right now Christina is still fighting to survive. We ask that you please share this request with any HFI members you know who do not have access to this message via social media and all others with whom you are called to share it. Christina and her family are active with Fr. Michael Harrington’s Pauline family efforts in the Boston area. — with Michael Harrington.

The Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God

Some things to think about on this Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God (and always)

"In dangers, in doubts, in difficulties, think of Mary, call upon Mary. Let not her name depart from your lips, never suffer it to leave your heart. And that you may obtain the assistance of her prayer, neglect not to walk in her footsteps. With her for guide, you shall never go astray; while invoking her, you shall never lose heart; so long as she is in your mind, you are safe from deception; while she holds your hand, you cannot fall; under her protection you have nothing to fear; if she walks before you, you shall not grow weary; if she shows you favor, you shall reach the goal."

--Saint Bernard of Clairvaux, Father and Doctor of the Church

O sinner, be not discouraged, but have recourse to Mary in all you necessities. Call her to your assistance, for such is the divine Will that she should help in every kind of necessity.

--Saint Basil the Great
