PAPAL MONTHLY INTENTIONS

October 2012

General Intention: New Evangelization. That the New Evangelization may progress in the oldest Christian countries.

Missionary Intention: World Mission Day. That the celebration of World Mission Day may result in a renewed commitment to evangelization.

PAULINE MONTHLY INTENTION

Let us increasingly understand that the word of God is good for all people, is to be shared with joy and generosity with all peoples so that they too may find in Jesus Christ the Way, the Truth and the Life.

From Father Tom: How does this affect you?  You have had a special word of God:  the Institute.  You have had the grace to understand and accept it. Now, are you keeping it to yourself or sharing it?  I know the world is full of criminals but...can you not find a reformed one?

Please Pray for Our Deceased:  Bro Franco Dario SSP (1995)-- Sr. M. Ignacia Cufre' PD (1998)-- Sr. M. Alba Roagna FSP (2001)-- Sr. M. Annunziata Stanizzi PD (2008)-- Rina Taddei AIM (2011)-- William Beck (1996)-- Helen Vargo (2005).

XXVI SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Num 11: 25-29
Jas 5: 1-6
Mk 9: 38-48

The Pauline multiplies with technical means the Word of God and this is a great act of charity as we offer souls the water leaping up to eternal life (VMC 1232).

From Father Tom: The Pauline celebrating Mass does good...for others for whom the Mass is being offered. He should not deceive himself that he simultaneously does good to himself.

Scriptures to Pray Four Our National Election

As you know, the national elections are coming up in the United States in about 40 days.  40 days! Wow!  If  you are like many people who would like to see our nation under new leadership, or would just like our beloved country to have the best leadership possible, you might want to consider joining together with people of all denominations for a 40 days of prayer.  It started yesterday, but there is still plenty of praying to be done.  What I'd like to do, is to share with you every couple of days until the election, a scripture verse to be used for prayer and meditation for the welfare of our country and the conversion or replacement of our leaders with those who will listen to the voices of the people and of God.  Here is the description I received regarding initiative as well as the first scripture verse. You can pray/meditate on one or more each day, however you choose (based on how I post them. :o)  )

God bless and thank you.

Scriptures To Pray For Our National Election
It is critical that Christians pray for the coming presidential election. There is amazing power in united prayer. Pray with others whenever possible. The power of prayer can overcome any obstacle or ungodly influence and, indeed, do great things!

II Chronicles 7:14 - If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, will heal their land.

Jn 1: 47-51

Give the world Jesus, Way, Truth and Life.  Don't acquire a worldly mentality but give the mentality of Jesus (VMC 1030).

From Father Tom: What is involved here--for us preachers in particular--is the danger of toning down the teaching of Christ or giving only the parts not likely to offend.  And if my doctor did that, telling only the good things about my health...what sort of a doctor would he be?

OF THE DAY
St. Wenceslaus, Martyr

Each day is for us a chain of little things, a succession of moments, continuing occasions of trials, of difficulties and ...very importantly, of merits (BM p. 180).

From Father Tom: That is why it is a god idea to repeat the Morning Offering frequently during the day.  The more we renew our intention the more valuable the "little things" are.  In God's eyes nothing is either "little" or "great" but is measured by whether we do it for Him or for some other reason.

Ours is a teaching institution which aims at giving Jesus Christ to the world. His teaching, His moral law, His worship (VMC 1023).

From Father Tom: We can also make a selection of these topics:  giving worship in church without worrying about morality outside it; giving His teaching selectively, picking and choosing from His moral law.  That's pretty much what's happening in our day.

The habit of thinking good thoughts and of sincerely desiring what is good, gives to our attitude true goodness, constant frankness and habitual serenity (BM p. 91).

From Father Tom:  I would imagine that "constant frankness" means "readiness to speak well or point out the good:, and not readiness to point out faults unless we have the duty, e.g. as parents.

Back from the Holy Family Institute Triduum

Hello everyone!

I got back from the annual Holy Family Institute Triduum (retreat) in Canfield yesterday afternoon but didn't have a chance to check in here until today. It's wonderful to see so many new faces. Welcome! (And thank you Sr. Helena).

The retreat was wonderful, truly a blessing. It was a weekend spent with other members of the Holy Family Institute and Pauline family, many of whom hadn't seen each other in over a year. We caught up on news, attended wonderful talks, Holy Hours and Masses and spiritually recharged. The Daughters were there with a book table, and information on the Movie about our Founder, Blessed Father James Alberione which is going great. If anyone would like to contribute to the film to help defray some of the production costs, please contact Sr. Helena Burns. You can contact her on her FB page here:

http://www.facebook.com/helena.burns.921

It is definitely a worthwhile project and I know any help, including prayers would be much appreciated.

Another highlight of the retreat was a visit to the new Pauline Book center in Youngstown. It's still being set up, but it has a wonderful selection of books and statues, etc and will soon have a Adoration Chapel as well. I'll miss going to the Monastery to pick up religious articles while on retreat, but I think the new bookstore will reach more people and that's the important thing.

All, in all it was a wonderful weekend. I enjoyed catching up with those who were able to come and prayed for those who couldn't. I'd like to congratulate all those who entered the Noviate or became professed.

God bless ....

In Jesus Master through Mary Queen of Apostles and St. Paul...and have a wonderful day.

September 20, 2012 with Blessed Father Alberione and With Father Tom

Hi everyone!

I hope you are all well and enjoying the fall-ish weather. It's been rather beautiful here the last few days, if you discount the tornado watch we had yesterday, :o).  Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I will be unable to access my computer for a few days so this will be the last post until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.  Have a blessed week and weekend and I'll see you soon.

God bless...

Faith must be united to charity and that charity must be patient, actively doing good.  Faith and charity prepare us for the eternal vision and joy of heaven (BM 569).

From Father Tom: The two are strictly connected. Profound faith leads to being charitable even toward those who are anything but deserving of it and to a strong conviction that our enemies can do us no real harm because God is in charge of everything.

To desecrate the Eucharist is an act of such temerity, ingratitude and affront to Jesus Christ that the saints compared it to the sin of Judas (BM 452).

From Father Tom: True.  And what are we to say about the Church today where desecration of the Eucharist. Ignorance about It and disputes about It? No wonder the world is falling apart economically--the Creator can take only so much.

As Jesus went to His death, Mary suffered in loving silence.  She is an example to women, to the apostles and to the martyrs of every age (BM p. 387).

From Father Tom: Almost everyone has had the experience of assisting at the passing of a close friend or relative--or even a beloved child. Mary suffered all the more because of her great perfection, no sin or defect and therefore ultra-sensitive.  "Pray for us, O holy and agonizing Mother of God.
