Avaricious people become attached to the goods of the earth and simply ignore any question of loving God or searching for Him (BM 641).

From Father Tom: Avaricious in this sense we are not but in some probably all but the great Saints are.  Our human nature reaches automatically for all the goodies around us and has to make a real effort to think of an alternative.
