NATIVITY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST
Is 49: 1-6
Ps 139: 11-3, 13-15
Acts 13: 22-26
Lk 1: 15-20

Jesus said about John the Baptist: "He was a lamp burning and illuminating." We have first to burn and then to enlighten others--or even set them on fire (Vita Pastorale, Apr 1948).

FROM FATHER TOM: This can be quite a challenge, especially because we may be burned out personally before we have the possibility of helping others. If so, perhaps a little less fire with a little more faith is needed.
