May 1, 2014 With Blessed Father Alberione and With Father Tom

Thursday, May 1
EASTER WEEKDAY
FIRST THURSDAY OF THE MONTH--
THE ANGEL GUARDIANS
Acts 5: 27-33
Ps 34: 2, 17-20
Jn 3: 31-36

Monthly Intention: During this month let us pray for our brothers and sisters of the Pauline Family in Great Britain, Guatemala, Honduras, Hong Kong, India, and Ireland.

During my trips to visit the Pauline Families, I often recite the second joyful mystery. May the Bl. Virgin give me the grace to bring joy, light and grace" (SP June 1949)

From Father Tom: Someone once said to me: "Holy Church" is just a big hospital." Very true, and we can say the same of families and even of Religious Houses, here or abroad. That is a drawback from the practical point of view but a way of accepting ourselves and others more patiently.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Angela Losito HFI (1994)--Alfred Edlmair, Gabrielite (1998)--Fr. Pasquale Casillo SSP (2001)--Sr. M. Gabriella Munoz FSP (2008)--Sr. Maurizia Sartorado FSP (2009)--Elizabeth Marie Beattie (2001)--Ella Friloux--John Stevens (no years)

ST. PIUS V, Pope
OF THE DAY
Acts 5: 17-26
Ps 34: 2-9
Jn 3: 16-21

A soul will be truly holy if she searches for and aims in all things at the grater glory of God (RSP 120).

From Father Tom: On the positive note we conclude the month of April. An important thought: the meaning of membership in the HFI is not so much to say prayers as to OBSERVE THE VOWS and perhaps especially the vow of poverty. Recall that the meaning of poverty for us is that we spend our resources only if the expense is truly needed.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Sr. M. Tecla Cutrini FSP (1960)--Fr. Ugo Antonucci IJP (1991)--Sr. M. Salvina Pipus FSP (2008)--Jesus Valdes (1987--Emilio A. Mararil (2009)

OF THE DAY
Acts 4: 32-37
Ps 93: 1-2, 5
Jn 3: 7-15

We have a mission and one day the Lord will ask us to give an account of it (RSP 149).

From Father Tom: This is a stimulating thought in those moments when our lives seem to be accomplishing nothing worthwhile: at that very moment one of the souls assigned to us may be in danger of serious sin. Let us pray NOW for him or her.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Sr. M. Carmelina Chillura FSP (1981)--Fr. God wants man to be saved. He wants the Kingdom of Jesus Christ on earth. He wants t olive in everyone (BM 545).

From Father Tom: Probably the easiest way to bring this about is to practice the last part: after Baptism the Lord lives in us. Let's be aware of that and try to make it a permanent reality.

Come, Master and Lord, teach and reign, through Mary, Mother, Teacher and Queen (Prayers of the Holy Family Institute).

From Father Tom: What part does Mary play in my life and in yours? Some have made the True Consecration of Grignion de Montfort. All of us I think recite the Rosary and pray frequently to the Queen of Apostles.

OF THE DAY
Acts 4: 13-21
Ps 118: 1, 14-15, 16-21
Mk 16: 9-15

Glory to the elect! And you, righteous people, persevere while waiting for the great day. The joy of the wicked lasts for just a moment. Your joy will be eternal (NOV 282).

From Father Tom: And who are these? In the world we live in, it is hard to say. Only the divine Mind can find its way through the permutations and combinations in the lives of confused unfortunates (the word is not too strong) who no longer know what they believe as the media--subsidized by Satan --present all sorts of creeds except the right one.

Jn 21: 1-14

Mary is in heaven for two reasons: to receive the reward merited by her and to exercise her task and distributor of graces (BM 399).

From Father Tom: And what are the saints and angels doing? I would imagine the second part of Our Lady's role. Surely our infinitely active and inventive Creator is not going to leave us lollygagging about Paradise forever!

Lk 24: 35-48

Eternal life is charity. The more we detach ourselves from creatures and keep close to God, the greater is our perfection (NOV 308/09).

From Father Tom: The problem is to find the "happy medium" in this process--one lifetime is not enough.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Bro Paolo Yamano SSP (1982)--Sr. M. Fiorella Portale PD (1990)--Fr. Pio Bertino SSP (1994)--Sr. Paula M. Somoes FSP (1999)--Sr. Modesta Cane FSP (2006)

OF THE DAY

Ps 105: 1-4, 6-9
Lk 24: 13-35

The kingdom of God is for the brave and the strong--prayer makes possible through the grace of God what would not be possible for men and women (NOV 108).

From Father Tom: Is this true? We would have to say "yes" because the words of our holy Founder simply repeat what the Church teaches. So then, can we point at something in our lives brought about by prayer? Good question.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Renato Mencarini HFI (1988)--Bro Giovanni Moretto SSP (1999)--Sr. M. Alessandra Tavella PD (2002)--Fr Carmine Caputo SSP (2002)--Sr.M. Gabriela Bartolotta FSP (2007)--Sr. Maria Luis Benigni FSP (2009)--Ann Teterycz (1995)

The pious women find the tomb empty; the angel announces to them the mystery of the Resurrection (BM 592).

From Father Tom: Are there women today full of faith and ready for the angelic announcement? Certainly there are and HFI members are very much among them. Now, can we find some more?

Mt 28: 8-15

Tradition has it that the Risen Christ appeared first of all to His holy Mother (BM 389).

From Father Tom: Another tradition--or theological opinion--says that He did not do this because her super-heroic virtue never doubted what He promised. What do you think?

Cor 3: 1-4
Jn 20: 1-9

By means of the Cross, souls receive the life of grace, and the Church receives power and every blessing (BM 385).

From Father Tom: That is still true and always will be. The Son of God had all the freedom in the world but He chose suffering: although guilty of nothing to counteract the pleasures we choose though guilty of everything.

The priest is first of all for the Eucharist (BM 585).

From Father Tom: Other Christian groups have their priests say "This is the Body of Christ."  Our priest say " This is MY Body"...At the Consecration, the Lord takes the priest over for an instant.

The priest is first of all for the Eucharist (BM 585).

From Father Tom: We classify our priests in various ways: good speaker, good administrator, very concerned about his people, etc. It is less common to hear the way he celebrates Mass shows that he believes in what he is doing. Not good.

The Church, in the only Mass of this day celebrates the institution of the Most Holy Eucharist and of the priesthood. The priesthood is first of all for the Eucharist (BM 585).

From Father Tom: Interesting observation. We priests have to remember what we are doing on the altar and what makes us "different" although not better.

From Father Tom: By "heart" we mean also "conscience" or perhaps "disposition." Understood in this sense we need our confessor rather than our cardiologist.

Faith gives a right intention to our good works (BM 196).

From Father Tom: Nice point. Did we think that our "good works" automatically entitled us to a heavenly reward? Not exactly. First we need "faith " or perhaps we might say: "we need to be in the state of grace."

Faith is the root of all sanctification--the root of all right living (RSP 45).

The words of Jesus to His Apostles are full of meaning: "Peace." "I send you." "Receive the Holy Spirit, whose sins you shall forgive..."

From Father Tom: Here we have a whole missionary program: Why go? To share Christ's peace. How? By the Holy Spirit. Result: Forgiveness.

April 3, 2014 With Blessed Father Alberione and With Father Tom

Thursday, April 3
OF THE DAY
First Thursday of the Month--The Guardian Angel
Ex 32: 7-14
Ps 106: 19-23
Jn 5: 31-47

Easter is a renewal, a spiritual joy, an elevation (BM 594).

From Father Tom: The word "EASTER" also gives us a hint of what is involved: each new day, as we experience it, begins in the "east". And there is light and warmth and the sense of hope and expectation. That, too, is Paradise: an infinite series of new experiences of joy.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Sr. Guseppina Favato PD (1933)--Sr. M. Annunziata Micca PD (1977)-Medina twins (1951)--Peter Candela Jr (1954)

April 2, 2014 With Blessed Father Alberione and With Father Tom

Wednesday, April 2
ST FRANCIS OF PAOLA, Hermit
First Wednesday of the Month--St. Joseph
Is 49: 8-15
Ps 145: 13-14, 17-18
Jn 5: 17-30

Blessed are they who believe without seeing, without proud difficulties (BM 594).

From Father Tom: Actually, belief with seeing is more correctly called "observation". We are entitled to some orientation, but in the final analysis, belief is a going out into the dark.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Sr. Marina Merz FSP (1963)--Fr. Salvatore Sallemi IJP (2006)--Sr. M. Andioletta Manduchi PD (2010)
