June 21-July 1, 2013 With Blessed Father Alberione and With Father Tom

I'm sorry for posting so many days all at once, but I will not have access to my computer for about a week.  These are the thoughts for that time.

God bless,

Friday, June 21
ST ALOYSIUS GONZAGA
2 Cor 11: 18, 21-30
Mt 6: 19-23

The sign of sanctity will always be humility, for sanctity means seeking the glory of God; the proud person seeks his own glory (RSP, p. 320)

From Father Tom:  And so often we have to stop and ask: WHY am I doing this? Am I trying to do it better each time? Am I trying to make a good impression? Am I jealous of you who seem to be doing it much better—do I even question your motifs? Am I discouraged because nothing I do succeeds? Plenty of questions…and no easy answers!

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Bro Bernardo Blasi SSP (1968)—Fr. Anselmo Vico SSP (1983)—Fr. Aleandro Arlandi IJP (1988)—Vincenzo Inbrunnone HFI (2002)—Marie Halcomb (1984)

ST PAULINUS OF NOLA, Bishop
John Fisher, Thomas Martyr
2 Cor 12: 1-10
Mt 6: 24-34

Ask for sanctity, the grace to do the will of God. Let this be the central request of every prayer (RSP p. 135).

From Father Tom:  What can I add to this? It could not be more relevant. EVERYTHING done according to the will of God is good.  NOTHING outside that will is useful, even if not bad. Do you examine yourself on this point? Do I? Let’s see…

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Cleric Salvatore Murabito SSP (1936)—Fr. Federico Muzzarelli SSP (1956)—Fr. Giulioi Molinari SSP (1965)—Fr. Michele Cazzulo SSP (1985)—Sr. M. Pierina Petrucci PD (1988)—Sr. Gioacchina Pasqualetti FSP (1980)—Fr. Vincenzo Siletti SSP (2000)

Zac 12: 10-11, 13:1
Gal 3: 26-29
Lk 9: 18-24

Prayer is the breath of supernatural life. If there is no prayer, the soul dies spiritually (BM 502)

From Father Tom:  When you stop breathing…you die. That’s automatic. Let’s try and develop an automatic prayer life: invocations during work, time in church according to each one’s possibilities.

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Fr. Domenico Sparacio SSP (2001—Sr. Luisa Zambotti FSP (2007)

Monday, June 24
NATIVITY OF JOHN THE BAPTIST
Is 49, 1-6
Acts 13: 22-26
Lk 1: 57-60

The name “John” means “the Lord is gracious.” (BM 676).

From Father Tom:  Didn’t know this before (my authority is Fr. Alberione!) Seems sad that this word is used in so many senses which do little to honor the gracious Lord.

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Sr. M. Lorenzina Layog FSP (1991)—Sr. Ginetta Pisola SGBP (1997)—Fr. Ottavio Cauli IJP (2002)—Paola Ninivaggi IAM (2009)

OF THE DAY
Gen 13: 2-18
Mt 7: 6-14

Let us recite the “our Father” in the morning, often during the day and when we find ourselves in some difficulty (RSP 111)

From Father Tom:  Interesting that final line. Must say I never thought of this…the Founder can still teach me a thing or two!

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Sr. Ancilla Viola FSP (1998) –Sr. Erminia Richelmi FSP (2002)—Sr. M. Bernardetta D’Angelo PD (2002)—Fr. Enea Spinosa IJP (2007)—Julio Zicari HFI (2008)—Leda Di Tommaso HFI (2009)

Wednesday, June 26
OF THE DAY
Gen 15: 1-12
Mt 7: 15-20

God is of such majesty that before Him all the earth is as if it didn’t exist (BM 113).

From Father Tom:  And we human beings are less still—negatives! But…God became one of us “negatives”…and died a terrible death to save us. If that were a story in a magazine…who would believe it?

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Fr. Antonio Anania IJP (1988)—Sr.M. Aniola Pecorelli PD (1994)—Carmelo Caramazza HFI (2006)—Sr. Hilda Eva Breve SG (2007)—Concetta Arcione HFI (2009)—Bro Luigi Montanaro SSP (2010)—Ralph Dorsey Johnson (1991)

Thursday, June 27
OF THE DAY
St. Cyril of Alexandria, Bishop and Doctor
Gen 16: 1-16
Mt 7: 21-29

Jesus does not accept just any person who wants to follow Him. He needs souls ready for any sacrifice (UPS 1: 216)

From Father Tom:  how well we all know this! If all those who had joined us, not to talk of those who made inquiries had continued…but, somehow, they lacked some essential. May they rest in peace.

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Sr. Severina Pellerino FSP (1981)—Sr. Rosa Capozzoli FSP (1997)—Fr. Angelo Castellotto SSP (2006)—Fr. Felipe Del Valle SSP (2010)

ST IRENAEUS, Bishop, Martyr
Gen 17: 1-22
Mt 8: 1-4

The person who impedes the work of the Church, the Christian education of the young and the spread of the Gospel is opposing the work of Jesus Christ (BM 686).

From Father Tom:  When the Founder wrote, he probably had in mind the Communists, very strong in Italy of his day. Now he would have to think of our so-called Christians and especially those in government.

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Sr. M. Teresina Dadone PD (1989)—Sr. M. Rachele Pasini FSP (1994)—Sr. M. Celeste Di Girolamo FSP (2=1994)—Sr. M. Speranza Valenzuela FSP (1997)—Sr. Sira Borghetti FSP (2001)—Bro Matteo Toffani SSP (2003)

Saturday, June 29
SS PETER AND PAUL, APOSTLES
Acts 12: 1-11
2 Tm 4: 6-8
Mt 16: 13-19

Until the end of time, the successor of Peter will declare what must be believed and what is the faith of the Church (BM 679).

From Father Tom:  And this, despite a number of “successors” who were so in terms of being next in line, but not so in terms of their personal behavior. In spite of this human weakness, no Pope ever taught heresy.

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Sr. Candida M. Taratglione FSP (1972)—Maria Adelaide Antonion IAM (1973)—Sr. M. Purissima Accenas FSO (1981)—Fr. Jesus Fuente SSP (1986)—Fr. The Three Divine Persons were involved with the work of Creation and we see them reflected in human beings: the Father in the human will, the Son in the human mind and the Holy Spirit in our emotions. We are the imjage of the Trinity (UPS 149).

Hypocrisy make a display of qualities it does not have so as to win esteem and benevolence it does not merit (BM 96).

Sin is an act of pride, an act of disobedience which takes away from God the love He alone merits (RSP 205).

From Father Tom:  Every sin is founded on pride, though in different ways. It says to God: "You go your way and I'll go mine"--forgetting that we can go nowhere without Him!

Every difficult work, associated to the Passion of Christ, becomes an element of individual and social redemption (SP January 54).

From Father Tom:  Perhaps we have to understand better the importance of our daily task which is not a 'waste of time" (when we should be in church) but a perfect imitation of the life of the Carpenter.

God lives in the three Person s a life that is perfect, infinite and eternal. He is the Source, the Principle and the Model of interior life for everyone (BM 23).

From Father Tom:  All day long the Father draws each of us to Himself--that is why we came into the world. Wise are we if we find ourselves recognizing this and responding to Him.

The Pauline Family has only one spirituality, living integrally the Gospel honoring the Divine Master as the Way, the Truth and the Life, living Him as St. Paul understood Him (UPS III, 187).

From Father Tom:  Pauline spirituality is, brisk and businesslike. It takes some years (I imagine) for us to grasp that Jesus is Maser and is Way, Truth and Life--concepts none of us ever heard before...because they are ONLY in the Pauline Family.

OF THE DAY
Blessed Virgin Mary on Saturday
2 Cor 5: 14-21
Mt 5: 33-37

The saint is not a washed up, irresponsible person, unable to fulfill a role in life. Sanctity is the human being come to full maturity, the perfect man or woman (SP, Sept '54)

From Father Tom:  Another way of saying this is: "the glory of God is Man, fullly alive." This however did not apply to Fr. Alberione who was sick in some way every day of his life. So each case has to be judged differently.

Please Pray for Our Deceased: Sr. Luigina Nizzardi FSP (1986)--Fr. Pietro Ciccioli IJP (1988)--Sr. Giulia Culasso FSP (1992)--Sr. M> Fausta Bossi FSP (1994)-- Sr. M. Sebastiana Gallinaro PD (1996)--Bro Luck Speranza SSP (1998)--Fr. Corrado Santi SSP (1999)--Edward McParland (2005)

Affection, ignited and consecrated in sacrament of matrimony must generate indissoluble union of hearts, since it is the blood of Jesus Christ that has united them (BM 490).

From Father Tom:  Marriage is a way to holiness, NOT the holiness of the Religious based on self-imposed sacrifices but the holiness of everyday life based on sacrifices you wouldn't believe!

2 Cor 3: 15-4: 1-6
Lk 10: 19

We lose time when we don't work for heaven but only for the present life, for honors or for earthly reasons (BM 41).

From Father Tom:  Funnily enough, we can look for spiritual "honor"--things done, what people said about our work, how many listened to us, etc. Let's not fall into this trap. "amen, amen, I say to you, they already have their reward."

The priest must be in his life, words, works mind and tendencies like Christ. A human being by nature but a Christ in his powers and conduct (BM)

From Father Tom:  That is the ordained priest. But all Christians are priests or are meant to be, doing what the priest does in church: pray, give witness (=homily) and offer (their daily work).

There are people who have no will at all, are content with the present and have no interest in eternity (BM 107).

From Father Tom:  Our beloved Founder seems to imply that such people are exceptions..what would he say today when such people are the rule! Let's live in a distinctly different way and consle the Lord.

Judgement will take place as the Lord manifests all the good and all the bad of each of us. The virtues of the humble will shine forth as well as those of everyone who has served the Lord well (BM 70).

From Father Tom: We can't wait for the end of the world! Let's start to judge now...ourselves! How hard that is__and how easy to judge others!

IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY
Th 12: 1-20
Lk 2: 41-51

Mary looks at our heart whether it searches for God, is united to God, is detached from anything that displeases God (BM 406).

From Father Tom: Quite a program in three line! Where to start? Search for God? Perhaps--He certainly searches for us! United? Hard to measure. Avoid displeasing? Yes, that may be the most accessible. Let's beging!

His desire to glorify the Father and to save us eternally guides Jesus Christ in all His actions.  The Son of God became human to offer himself as a victim of peace and love (BM 290).

From Father Tom: Will we EVER grasp just what God did for us? Hopefully, in heaven, but on earth it is just too exaggerated. A GOD, all-powerful and  all everything else...doing what He did? Crazy! (with Divine love)

Monthly Papal Intentions June 2013

Here are the Holy Father's intentions for June 2013.

Mutual Respect. That a culture of dialogue, listening, and mutual respect may prevail among peoples.

New Evangelization. That where secularization is strongest, Christian communities may effectively promote a new evangelization.

God bless...

Providence watches over the innocent and righteous of heart and guides them in mysterious ways in their mission on earth (BM 376).

From Father Tom: Actually, Providence watches over all of us and, in a sense, has been doing so from all eternity. We are born because--and only because--God wants us.  We live immersed in His loving care. We are really valuable...let's esteem ourselves!

Love of Jesus consists of conformity to His will, of true fervor in virtue, of a living and practical faith. Just talking about these things is not enough (BM 347).

From Father Tom: This is always a reminder for me especially, but in  general for all of us.  It is so easy to SAY the right thing, to quote the law, to give good advice...but what do we DO? That's the real question.

We nourish ourselves at the table of the Body of Christ, but also at the table of the Word.  Founded on faith in these two indispensable elements we become ready to guide others.

From Father Tom: And especially we Paulines who trace their origin to a powerful message from the Exposed Blessed Sacrament almost 100 years ago. How is my Eucharistic life/ How is yours.
