This is one of the most beautiful days of life: only in Paradise will you understand it, which you will not for now. Professing the vows is not merely reciting a formula: it is a solemn consecration of our will to God through the vow of obedience, our body with the vow of purity, and external goods with the vow of poverty…It is a special grace that God gives without the merit of the one to whom He grants it (Diary, October 8, 1918).
