Holy Family Institute: Prayer AND Action

“It follows that membership of the Institute cannot be fulfilled by prayer alone. But, on the other hand, action without prayer becomes disordered, loved for its own sake and in the end largely useless: not prayer alone, therefore, but prayer and the exam of conscience to ensure that we are growing closer to God; not action alone which is very misleading, being frequently-and incorrectly-called ‘apostolate.’ Not so. Activity founded on prayer and on a sincere desire to improve spiritually through the exam of conscience is indeed apostolate. Activity devoid of these supports is simply…activity.”
