The common life to which we ought to conform ourselves, is first of all piety, whether speaking of the practices of piety or of the manner and the spirit with which to accomplish them (SP Dec 1952).

From Father Tom:  We have, obviously, no "common life," but we have the "practices of piety and "the manner and the spirit with which to accomplish them." In general most of us do very well indeed on this point.
