Let what is true, good and useful be thought about, willed, imagined, remembered, desired and loved (BM 254).

From Father Tom: So we need to banish not just "bad" thoughts but equally negative, pessimistic and hopeless reflections. Even in the worse situations, the all-powerful God has the solution.
