January 19, 2014 With Blessed Father Alberione and With Father Tom

Sunday, January 19
SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Is. 49: 3-6
1 Cor 1-13
Jn 1: 29-34

The Christian remains at peace in the midst of his pain, not turning to the right or to the left, but continuing his journey to heaven (BM 224).

From Father Tom: Indeed, pain may even increase the Christian's conviction that he is very much on the right road, regardless. Ahead of him always looms the lonely figure on the cross, to inspire, enlighten, sustain.

BLESSED VIRGIN MARY ON SATURDAY
1 Sm 1: 9-10:1a
Mk 2: 13-17

Hope inspires in us a generous laboriousness, lively desire for Paradise, ardor in prayer, energy in work, surety that God is with His faithful servants (BM 202).

From Father Tom: It is, therefore, not a spark in the dark, a light in the tunnel, but a deep-seated conviction that once we do the will of God to the best of our ability, nothing can deprive us of success.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Bro Tito Della Bartola SSP (1972)--Fr. Armando Gualandi SSP (1991)--Benito Filemon Villa HFI (1996)--Mario Pietrofeso HFI (2004)

ST ANTHONY, ABBOT
1 Sm 8: 4-7, 10-22
Mk 2: 1-12

We have to accumulate in our hearts the treasures of wisdom and grace to be poured out to souls through our apostolate (BM 305).

From Father Tom: The meaning here is not just that we must study first what we preach afterwards, but rather that we strongly believe and put into practice what we tell others.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Sr. M. Alonsa Marello PD (1984)--Sr. M. Stella Signorini FSP (1086)--Fr. Vito Frassanito IJP (1998)--Sr. Anna Foschi SGBP (1999)

OF THE DAY
1 Sm 4: 1-11
Mk 1: 40-45

Faith is the root of all sanctification and the spirit of faith is the root of all sanctity (Rsp p. 45)

From Father Tom: What is this "spirit"? The Founder seems to have in mind not belief in seems to have in mind not belief in a specific teaching but belief in all authentic teaching because God-through the Church--is the Author.

1 Sm 3: 1-20
Mk 1: 29-39

Sunday is not for sport, but for spiritual work. Make holy the Sunday (Rsp p. 39)

From Father Tom: In fact Sunday is the ideal day to relax and see where we are going spiritually. But is anybody doing that anymore? And yet, how sensible it is when examined closely

January 14, 2014 With God all things are possible

Tuesday, January 14
OF THE DAY
1 Sm 1: 9-20
Mk 1: 21-28

Sunday is not for sport, but for spiritual work. Make holy the day of Sunday (Rsp p. 39)

From Father Tom: How quaint! How naive! Try telling that to the thousands in the stadium, to the cash-laden managers, to the heroes in the field...but is that all?

Suffer with those who suffer, be joyful with those who are joyful. Suffer when the Church suffers, be joyful when she is joyful (SP, Nov 1953)

From Father Tom: Is there any REAL joy anywhere today? Life has become so difficult for the average man or woman that perhaps only innocent children can truly be happy. And, to cover up basic sadness, thre is only vulgarity and innuendo passing for "humor".

THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD
Is 42: 1-7
Acts 10: 34-38
Mt 3: 13-17

The true and highest ornament of a soul is grace which makes us sharers in the Divine life. (BM 357)

From Father Tom: As you are now aware, my explanation of "grace" (a very mysterious word) is the gracious presence in us of our Divine Master from our Baptism. This seems to me to make more sense than speaking of some "thing." Thank you, Jesus, for this gift.

Please Pray For Our Deceased: Fr. Agide Pasotti IJP (1995)

1 Jn 5: 14-21
Jn 3: 22-30

From Father Tom: It is not for us to change the ending of our lives: we depend all the time on the love and care of God. And death can come very swiftly. somehow, this seems (to) be forgotten in  the midst of the recent series of natural disasters. Loss of life, yes. Loss of supernatural life? Does anybody care?
