From Father Tom: True.  But without the help of God, the human will is quite unable to sustain the lifelong struggle against the world, the flesh and the devil. So the only remedy is begin today as if we had done nothing up to this and continue as long as we can.

From Father Tom: Which is a consoling reaching as very often we have to serve the Lord while experiencing incessant pain or very adverse circumstances. Jesus, after all, showwed the maximum love on Calvary.

From Father Tom: Charity in this sense is rather rare, i.e. the ability to put God first whenever there is a choice: go to church/watch tv; be kind to someone you know dislikes you; refuse to pass on juicy gossip; etc.  We can all do this occasionally but to do it always...

It's a horrible thing to be against God, inestimable good to be with Him.  God's invitations hardens obstinate hearts but lets good hearts break into tears of sorrow and love (BM p. 582).

From Father Tom: Perhaps ore than obstinate, too many hearts today are simply obtuse. They are concerned with neither good nor evil, but simply with the loss of big incomes and their current financial limitations. Satan never had it so good.

From Father Tom: And especially it brings peace to married life. Marriage is a very difficult vocation--and it is a vocation, not just something that happens to the couple. Never more than today do we need pardon and peace in marriage.

From Father Tom: In order of practicality, the Word--we have to know Who God is and what Eucharist is. That is the foundation of Pauline apostolate.
