In tribulations the righteous person leans on God and when he has to make a sacrifice, makes it willingly because he is not making it in vain (R.S.P. 215)
From Father Tom: One would imagine that everybody knows that sacrifices made in this context are not in vain but it is one thing to know and quite another to believe.
