THe Spiritual Exercises are a time of recollection, when  one isolates himself to find himself alone with God about eternity, about one's life about the journey one has made and about what still has to be done (FSP 38 p. 436).

To join the contemplative life to activity is to form the most perfect life. Burn brightly and cast light!  Two things are meritorious: personal sanctification and zeal or God's glory (CISP 649). 

FROM FATHER TOM: "Activity" in our case means working for more vocations. Personal sanctification means working for more vocations. We are not contemplatives.
