We know that spiritual tendencies and carnal tendencies exist-there is  something in th eguise of a struggle deep in our being. So it is necessary that we guide ourselves by a firm discipline and with the help of grace (MCS p. 477).

FROM FATHER TOM: Don't we all know this--but don't all do it. Other considerations intervene, other motivations, other goals. The exam should lead us to see not only what we do but why.
