From the very beginning, Jesus had those who adored Him and those who persecuted Him. That was the case to the end of His life and that will be true of the Church down the centuries (BM 543).

From Father Tom: I suppose the obvious comment is that all of us play both of these roles even if we don't quite go to the point of persecuting Him.
