I know this is a lot at one time, but I'm going to be on retreat and didn't want to miss any posts.
God bless...

DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH
ORDINARY
WEEKDAY
1 Tim 4:
12-16
Ps 111:
7-10
Lk 7:
36-50
The
heart is a very noble human faculty—but dangerous. Even when we offer it to
God, it remains open to affections (BM 246).
From Father Tom: True,
but that’s not a reason for becoming unpleasant—Jesus seems to have shown His
love freely and generously.

DAY ONE

Ps 49: 6-10,

Lk 8:

Jesus
gave to women a characteristic faculty: to have a keen and loving concern for
the infinity of little details which fill our lives (CISP p. 1262)
From Father Tom: We
call this her motherly concern and when
it remains even in celibates it is very impressive.
Please Pray for Our Deceased: Fr.
Angelo Bolzon SSP (2010)—Fr. Lorenzo Stefano Costa SSP (2011).

Ps 100:

Lk 8:

The
divine decree to make for Adam a helper like him had a new application in Mary
and the Redemption and in the Sister associated with the priest (CISP p. 1264).
From Father Tom: The
reference here seems to be to the “Pastorelle” Pauline Sisters who are almost
unknown to most of us, but have done well in Australia.

Ps 54
Jas 3:

Mk 9:
30-37
A pure
soul is a soul that has received an undefinable series of graces, since the
struggle to keep purity is always the most difficult one (APD 1956, 87).
From Father Tom: Yes,
but—to repeat an old thought—we mustn’t be “as pure as angels but as proud as
devils!” This was an accusation frequently leveled in the past against some
Sisters who—it was said—simply substituted one defect with another one.

Eph 4: 1-13
Ps 19: 2-5
Mt 9:

One
individual always watches himself and so speaks in accordance with faith and
another opens his mouth and thoughtlessly and frivolously says what he shouldn’t
(RSP p. 226).
From Father Tom: Ah,
the tongue! How often it betrays us! At the end of the day have we said anything without using too many
words..or too few? So many “idle” or useless words for which we will have to
account at our judgment.

Ps 122:
1-5
Lk 8:
19-21
The
union between God and us must cover the mind, the will and the heart. No
creature was so united with God as the Blessed Virgin (FSP p. 216).
From Father Tom: A
brief exam usually sows us that we are not quite as we should be on all these
points. So each of us has to ask: on which one am I failing the most and what
do I need to correct? That thought should accompany us to the end of our days.

Suffering
is not only a test: it is an apostolate. It is a secret of joy. It is sharing
in the redemptive work of the Savior (FSP p 228).
From Father Tom: Indeed…but if we suffer with a little less “joy”
that is not surprising or even a defect. The important thing is to keep in mind
the words “apostolate” and “redemptive work.”
