Initially, the examination of conscience will be done at certain time(s), but it can become habitual if we frequently stop to ask ourselves: "where is my heart now?" (VMC 896).
From Father Tom: We are talking, of course, of the brief exam on one's major defect. These brief reflections are more useful than the longer sessions which can even become depressing.
