By means of the cross, souls receive the life of grace, the Church receives power and every blessing descends on humanity (BM 385).

From Father Tom: This is true also when talking about our personal crosses. Suffering in itself was never God's first thought--how on earth could it be--would He not have been highly sadistic? Instead He accepted the suffering but personally led the way in showing us how to approach it.
