By means of the cross, souls receive the life of grace, the Church receives power and every blessing descends on humanity (BM 385).

From Father Tom: This has to be true also of our individual crosses patiently borne in union with the Crucified One. This is the value of suffering and especially suffering in loneliness. On the Cross, Jesus was quite alone apart from his Mother, some pious women and St. John.
