Hope is a great help and a comfort in the work of our sanctification. it unites us to God, detaching us from the goods of the present life (BM, p. 202).

From Father Tom:  Now here is another view on the same subject: we don't favor or disfavor prayer but take an attitude which quietly includes prayer but gives the lion's share of the eventual success to hope and are not beaten when there is short-term failure: "hope springs eternal in the human breast" (anybody know the author of this quote?).
