To be normally able to bear patiently with reverses makes for a patient, serene soul, united to God, taking each duty of the day as it comes along (APD 1957).
The basic quality needed in this case is not so much a naturally serene disposition as a profound FAITH founded on reflection and prayer. This is a special gift of God.
